Corporate Tax Manager – Research & Development (MCI)

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead R&D tax credit projects from inception to completion.
  • Conduct technical fieldwork, including visiting client locations and touring facilities to investigate relevant facts.
  • Analyze accounting information and prepare cost lead/summary schedules.
  • Perform complex tax computations and draft written reports summarizing findings and technical positions.
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Research complex federal and state tax issues, specifically regarding R&D rules and relevant court cases.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities and assisting in the creation of client proposals.
  • Oversee the preparation and amendment of federal and state tax returns.

Qualifications

  • Maintain firm standards and provide mentorship and support to junior team members.

Technical Skills

  • Tax Expertise: Deep understanding of federal and state R&D tax rules, regulations, and relevant case law.
  • Accounting Proficiency: Intermediate understanding of tax return mechanics and experience with amending tax returns.
  • Niche Knowledge: Specialized experience in R&D tax credits, Fixed Assets, or Tax Accounting Methods.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Must possess an active CPA license or a Juris Doctor (JD) with an active attorney's license. Enrolled Agent (EA) status is not accepted for this role.

Functional & Experience Skills

  • Industry Experience: 6 to 10 years of experience specifically in R&D tax credits.
  • Public Accounting: Minimum of 4 years of experience in Accounting or Tax within a public accounting or consulting firm.
  • Project Management: Proven experience managing project lifecycles, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Vertical Exposure: Experience across industries such as Technology, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Real Estate, Construction, or Hospitality.

Behavioral Skills

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction.
  • Time Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership: Ability to support leadership initiatives and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or Operations Research.
