Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Federal, State, and Local tax returns for the Ilitch Companies including forms 1065, 1120-S, and 1120.
- Analyze quarterly financial statements for all Ilitch Companies, and calculate any estimated payments (Federal, State, and Local) that may be required. Prepare such estimates and make appropriate requests for check, ACH, and online payments, and confirm payments were made.
- Request information for and prepare quarterly Ohio Commercial Activities Tax (CAT) returns.
- Prepare quarterly Form 720 Federal Excise tax returns.
- Request information for and prepare annual PCORI Excise Tax returns.
- Prepare the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and CA Enterprise Zone credit for applicable entities.
- Act as the primary contact for consultants preparing the Federal Empowerment Zone credit.
- Cook up and/or prepare amended tax returns as needed.
- Responsible for all communication related to income/franchise tax audits, including work papers, gathering tax information and communicating findings or settlements.
- Perform specific tax research as required, and /or assigned.
- Provide information needed for Federal, State, and Local tax returns and audits.
- Monitor federal and state tax legislations, regulations, and judicial activities, and implement approved changes on tax returns, as necessary.
- Peer review federal, state and local tax returns as assigned.
- Prepare all required foreign bank account filings for all applicable Ilitch Companies and Shareholders.
- Prepare Section 199A calculation for all applicable Ilitch Companies and Shareholders.
- Prepare FIN 48 calculation for all applicable Ilitch Companies.
- Investigate and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices.
- Afford assistance with other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of two (2) years of corporate or public accounting experience, including multi-state exposure and in-depth knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws and reporting requirements as it relates to various state, local and municipal jurisdictions.
- Evidence of highly developed communication skills with the ability to present complex and technical information in verbal or written formats to a variety of internal and external audiences.
- Evidence of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and multi-task.
- Highly developed analytical skills and demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, database, internet and applicable tax software).
- Ability to travel as necessary.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Master’s degree in taxation, CPA preferred.
- Previous experience in audit compliance with Federal, state and local jurisdictions preferred.
- Familiarity with CorpTax software, CCH Intelliforms, CCH Research software or Oracle a plus.
