Corporate Security Specialist (Part-time)
About the role
Wellmark is hiring a part-time Corporate Security Specialist for their Des Moines, Iowa office. Part-time hours will average 20 hours/week or less. Possible shifts include second and third shifts on weekdays (Monday-Friday) and first, second, and third shifts on weekends.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine patrols of company premises to ensure the safety and security of assets, facilities, and personnel.
- Maintain detailed records of security activities and incidents.
- Respond to security incidents, emergencies, and threats, implementing defensive tactics when necessary.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Secure premises and personnel and prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities.
- Respond to emergency/medical situations, serving as the intermediary with emergency response personnel, conveying information to the emergency.
- Support day-to-day security operations and response efforts by working closely with other members of the security team and partnering with internal departments and external emergency personnel.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree in security management or related field preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in a security role, preferably within a corporate environment or a related security/protective services role; or equivalent training or experience (i.e. military or law enforcement training and experience).
- Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, and emergency response.
- Demonstrable knowledge of defensive tactics and security equipment.
- Ability to think critically, apply logic and sound judgment in high-pressure situations to assess threats and respond appropriately.
- Familiarity with emergency medical protocols (e.g. TCCC/TECC), AED operation, and crisis response strategies.
- Professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a security team, supporting internal departments and interfacing with external emergency personnel as needed.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights and weekends.
- Axon certification required, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
Qualifications
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience in a security role or a related security/protective services role; or equivalent training or experience (i.e. military or law enforcement training and experience).
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or equivalent certification.
- Military or law enforcement background.
- Experience in corporate security or high-profile executive protection.
- Familiarity with and the ability to be certified with limited security defensive equipment.
Benefits
The nature of the job duties for this position will require you to be in the office 100% of the time. Your presence in-office is critical to effectively perform the responsibilities of the role. Occasional remote work may be permitted based on workload and/or other ad-hoc situations that support it, with manager approval.
