Corporate & Regulatory Counsel

About the role

Consult on the legal issues and implications of potential business decisions and initiatives, providing counsel on general business and legal issues.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement standardized contracting processes and workflows
• Create and maintain contract templates, playbooks, negotiation guidelines, and procurement policies
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of vendor agreements
• Work with the procurement team to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and streamline vendor onboarding and contracting processes
• Possess strong drafting skills and create product forms, and other documents as appropriate to support business divisions and to address corporate policy/compliance issues
• Work with a cross functional team to facilitate proactive and compliant performance of all company objectives
• Provide legal advice, strategies, and solutions to all business functional areas, including Market Management, Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations/IT, Finance, PS&RS, Claims, and Human Resources
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• JD degree from an ABA approved law school and licensed at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• 3-8 years' experience preferred
• Experience in insurance and/or reinsurance preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• PC literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and Lexis or Westlaw
• Good organizational and analytical skills
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Strong legal research and analysis skills
• Strong business acumen and ability to analyze legal issues from the business perspective
• Ability to handle many, varied legal issues at the same time in a fast-pace environment
• Ability to effectively prioritize assignments in a high-urgency setting
• Willingness to travel as necessary and work from the Fort Wayne home office weekly on a hybrid schedule
