Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out project feasibility studies.
  • Preliminary project planning, including creation of the project charter, scope, budget estimate, general schedule, and capital expenditure request (CER).
  • Detail project planning, including preparation of definitive budgets, finalizing the execution scope, and creating Gantt or other activity-based schedules.
  • Execute and control the project through the capital project process, including regular project reporting on scope, schedule, cost estimate, safety and environmental performance, delivery of business objectives, and project look-back for improvement.
  • Select and coordinate with outside engineering firms, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Select and procure process equipment and other project deliverables.
  • Maintain and improve Corporate Capital Project and Engineering Standards.
  • Define and lock in stakeholder requirements to minimize scope changes.
  • Contribute to the development of annual capital operating budgets.
  • Absorb and comply with the Responsible Care Management System® by establishing policies and procedures, assigning responsibilities, and tracking progress.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4-10 years of experience in project engineering within a manufacturing facility, preferably in a chemical plant or refinery.
  • Experience in developing and implementing capital project work processes.
  • Travel to all sites to participate in and facilitate projects.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven team player with good relationship skills.
  • Physical ability to reach all work areas in the plant, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform tasks requiring reaching, climbing, negotiating catwalks, handling heights up to 50 feet, opening and closing large valves, inspecting equipment, donning emergency equipment, etc.
  • Proficiency in PC applications, including MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Expertise in drafting software like AutoCAD.
  • Ability to define and lock in stakeholder requirements to minimize scope changes.
  • Advanced course work in engineering, management, or chemistry is preferred.
  • Professional Engineering certification is recommended.
  • Project Management certification from an accredited institution is recommended.
  • Project Management Professional certification per the Project Management Institute is recommended.
