Corporate Engineer - Materials

About the Role

The Corporate Engineer is a key resource for executing complex tasks in projects, focusing on timely completion. This role serves as the main technical resource for composite development, materials, and process-related issues. Responsibilities include designing, developing, altering, or modifying products and processes, evaluating new devices, patents, or competitive items, and managing engineering change controls.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical resource for material and product development in composites.
• Develop new processes for composite-related operations.
• Specify installation requirements, develop Statements of Work (SOW), obtain bids/proposals, and install new capital equipment.
• Lead the development of new materials and product realization.
• Qualify new materials and support existing composite production, including formulation changes.
• Maintain process control and associated documentation.
• Manage engineering change controls and formulation adjustments to meet customer expectations.
• Provide process engineering training on DMAIC and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Manage green belt continuous improvement projects for process engineers.
• Facilitate best practices sharing and communication enterprise-wide.
• Manage A3 projects within budget and on time.
• Oversee R&D budget and projects.
• Execute approved engineering projects to meet timelines and ROI goals, communicating progress to stakeholders.
• Design and install processes that meet stakeholder and regulatory requirements.
• Lead FMEA and Control Plan initiatives.
• Assist manufacturing facilities with implementing new processes and equipment.
• Develop technical reports (white papers) on new materials, processes, and equipment capabilities.
• Create technical training documents for sales and manufacturing teams.
• Source alternate materials as required.
• Perform data analysis and report findings in a coherent format.
• Identify and execute continuous improvement opportunities, documenting savings.
• Act as a liaison with industry associations such as UL, NEMA, IEC, and IEEE.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in capital equipment procurement, specification, and installation.
• Project management competency.
• Background in materials and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Outstanding organizational skills and proficiency in project management software.
• Performance-driven work ethic with a desire for personal and professional growth.
• Ability to analyze complex data and perform statistical analyses.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• FMEA and Control Plan facilitation experience.
• BS/MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering).
• OSHA competency in an industrial environment.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
• Self-starter and team player who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Lean/Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement background and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

The role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and fingers. The employee must be able to talk and hear. Travel is required to support projects across the enterprise. The work environment is typical of an office but may occasionally require time on the manufacturing floor, where noise levels are usually quiet.
