About the role
Reporting to the SVP, Corporate Insurance & Risk Management, the Corporate Director of Safety & Security (CDSS) oversees the general operations of the Safety & Security Departments. This role acts as a resource for properties, providing support and information on workplace safety, guest safety, incident prevention, asset protection, physical security, training, global intelligence, international matters, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Develop a company-wide safety and security global strategy.
- Direct safety and security protocols for multiple hotels, ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines and local laws (Portfolio Risk Management).
- Oversee the execution of corporate safety and accident prevention programs, as well as workplace violence initiatives.
- Develop and advise senior managers on safety training programs (e.g., OSHA, associate safety, fire, security).
- Establish and manage operational goals for Workers’ Compensation and General Liability claim reduction; support the management of such claims.
- Review all incident reports from security departments, ensuring reports are completed and investigations are promptly finalized with a focus on liability assessments.
- Ensure proper claim reporting to TPAs and insurance carriers by security departments.
- Conduct incident trending analysis, develop reports, and prepare action plans based on findings.
- Establish safety committees and monthly safety training programs; periodically attend safety committee meetings at all locations.
- Ensure completion and filing of meeting minutes, injury statistics, injury follow-ups, and monthly safety training records.
- Conduct periodic property health, safety, security, and risk assessments; audit to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Coach and mentor property-level Directors of Security and hotel security teams.
- Collaborate with properties to assist with interviewing Security Director candidates.
- Enhance incident management (Crisis Management plans) and threat assessment programs.
- Support security leaders in partnering with local authorities and other external agencies.
- Manage safety and security policies, procedures, and programs (e.g., SOPs) to promote the safety and security of associates, guests, properties, and company assets; audit and review for compliance.
- Support the SVP of Corporate Insurance & Risk Management with collecting exposure data from all locations for insurance renewal purposes.
- Research technologies and systems to ensure appropriate incident management and response.
- Act as the primary point of contact for emergencies, lead incident investigations, and conduct briefings/updates for the Senior Leadership team.
- Manage operational matters with data-driven intelligence to identify, evaluate, prioritize, and act on threats, risks, and losses in a timely fashion.
- Ensure all life safety systems (e.g., CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Alarm Systems) are maintained and function properly; collaborate with internal departments and external vendors on system enhancements and new implementations.
- Provide input for the development of new locations and manage the Safety & Security Critical Path for all new projects.
- Regularly evaluate security departments’ work quality and efficiency (e.g., report writing, daily activity logs, key controls, investigations, CCTV monitoring).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of progressive relevant work experience in Hospitality Security, Risk Management, and Safety, with a minimum of 7 years in a department leadership position.
- Preferred: Certified Lodging Security Director and multi-site experience.
- Certified in OSHA, CPR, AED, and First Aid.
- Experience with Crime Prevention and Protection within soft targets.
- CPP (Certified Protection Professional) Certification (or ability and willingness to obtain).
- PSP (Physical Security Professional) Certification (or ability and willingness to obtain).
- Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, and Crisis Management experience.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in opening new hotel/resort locations.

- Excellent verbal, written communication, and influencing skills.
- Strong technical skills; proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong professional demeanor with good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to solve problems and make rational decisions.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, local, and international laws governing civil rights, occupational safety and health, and Innkeeper laws.
- Versed in workers’ compensation and civil liability law and process.
- Strong organizational and time management skills for a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Proven ability to coach, train, and mentor.
- Ability to travel 50%.
Physical Requirements
- Most work tasks are performed indoors.
- Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day.
- Walking and standing are required for the remainder of the working day, including traveling to and from meetings and properties for on-site assessments and support.
Pay
The pay scale for the Corporate Director, Safety & Security is $150,000 to $175,000 base salary, exclusive of incentive pay such as commissions, piece rates, or gratuities.
