Corporate Counsel - Labor & Employment
Responsibilities
- Provide labor and employment law guidance and support to client-facing human resource professionals.
- Offer strategic input to the business from an operational risk perspective, provide timely and insightful advice.
- Cook up response to quantified risks, prepare and deliver regular reports based on thorough operational risk analysis and insights.
- Ensure risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, contracts, state and city laws, and strategic goals.
- Aid in developing strategy and protocol to assess employment law-related legal risks associated with client transactions.
- Serve as a trusted business partner by providing practical, risk-based legal advice and developing creative, compliant solutions that help the business achieve its objectives.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to identify paths forward that balance business needs with legal and regulatory requirements, rather than simply identifying obstacles.
- Identify ongoing compliance training and support needs for client-facing human resource professionals.
- Stay current on PEO legal and industry developments related to labor and employment laws.
- Lead and execute strategic design and process improvement projects internally.
- Investigate and respond to claims, EEOC charges and other administrative actions.
- Oversee employment litigation matters, regulatory hearings, and investigations.
- Maintain excellent partnerships with clients to meet their legal and business needs.
- Provide support for any other matter as may become necessary.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in labor and employment in private practice or corporate legal department preferred.
- Law degree (JD)
- Experience advising PEOs, staffing companies, HR outsourcing organizations, or employers on labor and employment matters is a plus.
- Admission to the NY Bar
- Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills
- Must have the ability to effectively interact with all levels of Sr. leadership team.
Pay
$135,000 - $155,000 annually, commensurate with experience
