About the role

Lead the drafting, negotiation, and review of a wide variety of contracts, including customer and vendor agreements, insurance policies, leases, and other critical legal documents.

Serve as a trusted legal advisor to executive leadership and management, offering clear, timely guidance aligned with business, financial, operational, and legal objectives.

Provide support on complex contractual issues, strategic initiatives, litigation, labor & employment matters, and other emerging needs.

Stay current on federal, state, and industry regulations—particularly DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable requirements—while developing a deep understanding of the businesses you support.

Develop, refine, and implement policies and standard operating procedures to reduce risk and reinforce compliance.

Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure legal strategies align with broader business goals.

Contribute to the Company’s overall legal strategy, promoting a proactive, solutions-oriented legal culture.

Guide and manage the resolution of contractual disputes and other legal matters.

Lead and coordinate work with external legal counsel to support business growth and positive outcomes.

Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including the management and optimization of the Company’s contract management system.

Develop strategies to reduce legal exposure for Trinity offices and Agents.

Maintain oversight of policy documentation to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with legal developments.

Participate in special projects and handle other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school required.
  • Ability to register and maintain a license as in-house counsel in Delaware required; an active Delaware law license is preferred.
  • Five years of relevant experience in a corporate setting or law firm.
  • Experience in contracts, corporate law, litigation, labor & employment, and compliance strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years in the transportation and/or logistics industry highly desirable.

  • Ability to develop and implement effective policies and procedures to enhance compliance and risk management.

Skills

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and industry regulations, particularly DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

This is a hybrid role to our Seaford, Delaware office 1-2 days per week.
