About the role
Peak Energy is seeking a highly motivated and business-minded Corporate Counsel to join our growing team. This role will serve as a key legal partner across the company, supporting a broad range of commercial, operational, corporate, and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements including sales and service contracts, offtake agreements, and procurement and vendor agreements
- Partner closely with commercial and sales teams to improve contracting workflows and support rapid business growth
- Support supply chain and procurement initiatives, including manufacturing, equipment, and strategic supplier relationships
- Aid in performance guarantees, commissioning terms, warranties, and other operationally complex contractual provisions relevant to the energy industry
- Support corporate governance activities, fundraising efforts, board materials, and related corporate matters
- Provide legal guidance on new business initiatives, partnerships, and emerging workstreams across the organization
- Help establish internal legal processes, policies, and operational protocols that enable teams to operate efficiently and autonomously
- Serve as a trusted advisor capable of balancing legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced startup environment
- Intellectual Property & Regulatory Support:
- Support intellectual property matters including patents and trademarks, and coordinate with IP counsel as needed
- Provide practical guidance on regulatory and compliance matters impacting the business and energy storage industry
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the California state bar
- 5+ years of legal experience with a combination of law firm and/or in-house experience preferred
- Experience independently drafting, negotiating, and advising stakeholders through transaction lifecycles with a practical, business-oriented mindset with sound judgment and a strong attention to detail
- Strong understanding of corporate law, commercial contracting in the energy industry, and general business operations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute autonomously in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across technical and non-technical teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior in-house counsel experience at an energy, infrastructure, climate technology, or manufacturing company
- Experience working closely with engineering or product organizations
- Experience supporting fundraising, M&A, and corporate governance matters
- Knowledge of California and Texas energy markets
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $170,000-$235,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:
