Core Stacking Technician
Position Summary
- Assemble transformer core components (yokes and legs) using pre-cut laminations.
- Follow work instructions and technical drawings to ensure proper sequencing and alignment.
- Maintain stack integrity, alignment, and dimensional accuracy throughout assembly.
- Prepare core assemblies for downstream operations.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Inspect laminations prior to assembly for damage, coating condition, or non-conformance.
- Verify alignment, sequencing, and dimensional accuracy of assembled core components.
- Identify defects such as gaps, misalignment, or damaged materials and take corrective action.
- Ensure conformance to engineering specifications and work instructions.
- Accurately log production data, material traceability, and quality yields into the ERP or production tracking system.
Material Handling
- Safely transport laminations and core components using overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
- Stage materials for efficient assembly while maintaining organization and traceability.
Tools & Equipment
- Use hand tools, fixtures, and assembly aids required for core stacking and alignment.
- Perform basic inspection and care of tools and equipment.
Production Support
- Maintain consistent assembly quality and minimize rework.
- Assist in resolving assembly issues and support continuous improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
- Experience in mechanical or precision assembly work.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Basic use of measurement tools such as calipers and gauges.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to identify assembly or quality issues and take corrective action.
Safety & Certifications
- Experience with overhead cranes or lifting equipment preferred.
- Ability to follow all workplace safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree (AAS) in Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field strongly preferred.
- Experience in transformer manufacturing, electrical equipment assembly, or similar industries.
- Experience working with precision assemblies requiring tight tolerances.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot assembly or build issues.
- Experience supporting process improvements or training other Technicians.
Additional Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel Internationally for training, equipment commissioning, or support activities, including extended travel during initial facility ramp-up.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role as outlined below.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods during the work shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs, with or without assistance.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion.
- Ability to bend, reach, and work in a manufacturing environment around moving equipment.
- Ability to safely work in an industrial environment using required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to heavy materials and moving equipment.
- Requires standing, lifting, and repetitive precision assembly tasks.
