Core Lab Supervisor - Academic Hospital

About the role

An esteemed academic medical center in the Bronx is seeking a Chemistry Supervisor to lead a high-volume hospital chemistry department, overseeing operations, staff, and the ongoing implementation of new automated instrumentation across a multi-shift environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversees 12–15 direct reports across 3 shifts
• Responsible for full chemistry department operations
• Monday–Friday 8am–4pm (flexibility required)
• Leading instrumentation upgrades + automation rollout
• Managing staffing optimization (per diem → FT conversions)
• Acts as primary escalation point for clinical, technical, and operational issues

Requirements

• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license
• 4+ years clinical lab experience with 1+ year leadership
• Strong chemistry discipline expertise (core + automation)
• Experience with:
• Instrument validation/implementation
• QA/QC, CAP/CLIA compliance
• Staff scheduling + performance management
• Ability to manage shift coverage challenges and retention
• Comfortable in hands-on, visible leadership role onsite
