Overview

The Copywriter reports to the Vice President & Manager of Client Experience. This role focuses on analytical and creative writing for fundraising and nonprofit communications. The Copywriter works on client reports, campaign messaging, and other communications materials. They also facilitate client meetings and manage internal project timelines.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and partner with project teams on synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data, distilling key themes, and developing comprehensive reports for clients.
  • Work with colleagues and clients to develop messaging for fundraising campaigns and other significant communications.
  • Produce copy for client communications in various formats, including brochures, digital presentations, web, and video.
  • Analyze a variety of client-related data and materials to identify key findings and messages.
  • Develop client-facing presentations and participate in interviews related to messaging and communications direction with senior client leadership and staff.
  • Provide day-to-day internal project management for deliverables, managing timelines and review processes.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality through proofreading, copyediting, and reviewing client and internal deliverables.
  • Collaborate across teams to develop recommendations, solve problems, share knowledge, and support integrated client service.
  • Maintain and improve communications tools, templates, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Participate actively in firm initiatives, meetings, workgroups, and professional development opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning, industry awareness, professional growth, and firm values.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Ability to manage workflows in line with goals for billable and non-billable time, working to project budgets.
  • Demonstrating strong communication and project management skills with internal teams and clients, managing projects to schedule.
  • Consistently and efficiently delivering quality work on core/standard services.
  • BUILDING TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS BY ENGAGING REGULARLY WITH CLIENTS AND COLLEAGUES, DEMONSTRATING A STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF OUR SERVICES AND CLIENT NEEDS.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in a related discipline from an accredited college or university. 3-5 years of experience in a writing-focused role in a collaborative/team-based environment.
  • Skill and Abilities: Strong technical/business writing and analytical skills, exceptional persuasive and expressive writing skills with the ability to listen and adapt to each unique client brand, voice, and tone, comfort and skill participating in team-based work processes and facilitating discussions of communications work, a collaborative work style with an open-minded attitude toward feedback, the ability to work independently to manage deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to solve problems, project management skills and attention to detail, professional experience in the nonprofit sector is not required, although a passion for the nonprofit sector is essential.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Requirements: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. This is a largely sedentary role.
  • Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This position is based in the Chicago, IL office and serves as part of the Midwest team. This role requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the office and/or onsite with clients (may include up to 20% of travel time with clients).

Compensation & Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is $70,000-75,000.
