Requirements

  • Special Education (SPED) teaching license
  • Mild/Moderate Disabilities (M/M) endorsement
  • SPED (S/P) E.D. Unit certification

Responsibilities

  • Organize and facilitate developmentally appropriate learning opportunities to ensure student participation and improve academic success, fostering a smooth transition to elementary school.
  • Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
  • Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Advise parents and legal guardians on student progress, communicating expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
  • Direct assistant teachers, special education paraeducators, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program addressing individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, instructional coaches, and colleagues to provide appropriate services as outlined in IEPs.
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor preschool students in various educational environments to ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
  • Model conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening skills, and other social behaviors.
  • Prepare written materials such as weekly newsletters, assessment reports, and lesson plans to communicate with parents, document progress, and meet mandated requirements.
  • Attend IEP meetings for students as needed.
  • Respond to emergency situations, resolving immediate safety concerns or directing them to appropriate personnel.
  • Administer first aid and dispense medications to meet immediate healthcare needs.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others to resolve issues or provide information.
  • Participate in meetings to convey or gather information required for job functions.
  • Perform other related duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
