Position Summary
The Coordinator or Director of Religious Education is a well-formed pastoral minister who works collaboratively with the pastor and his other staff members to create, develop, and implement a formal, comprehensive program of lifelong Catholic Christian formation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that all policies and procedures are consistent for all our programs, in harmony with Diocesan policies.
- Involvement with the Diocesan and Inter-Diocesan networks of professional peers.
- Cooky ministry for our K-8/9 catechists and work with our youth ministry (middle and high school) leader.
- Provide and supervise faith formation for parents and adults.
- Cooky OCIA (for adults and children) and the Adult Confirmation Process.
- Oversee the ongoing development of faith formation for special needs persons.
- Parent Classes for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
- Integrate our St. Catherine families into the Faith Formation program by offering meaningful rituals, days of reflection, and retreats.
- Retreats and Special Classes as needed, as well as a weekday Vacation Bible School during the Summer.
- Cooky ongoing formation, celebrations, and special events for our catechists.
- Prepare annual reports in the following areas:
- Goals for the Faith Formation Programs, both achieved and projected for the upcoming year.
- Communicate pertinent statistics, e.g., the number of students, teachers, and volunteers.
- Overseeing, in collaboration with our Faith Formation staff, the development of engaging lesson plans for students and parents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a field compatible with theology or religious studies.
- A practicing Catholic in good standing and a registered member of a Catholic parish faith community.
- A deep love for the Great Tradition of Theology of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Living Communion with the Church: Respecting, promoting, accommodating - and not conflicting with - the mission, moral, social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic Church.
- A passion for evangelization and developing disciples. Engagement is a key virtue for us.
- Experience as a parish catechist or related teaching experience. A minimum of three years of catechetical experience is preferred.
- Excellent pedagogical methodology.
- Strong collaborative and good relationship-building skills.
- Management and leadership skills, including planning, administration, and personnel oversight.
- Creativity and enthusiasm as we minister together in an energetic and diverse parish setting.
- Parish Staff Meetings, once a month and regular meetings with the Pastor.
- Having a good mastery of technology and the use of social media.
- Continuing education and ongoing formation will be provided through a process of mutual discernment.
Language Skills
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
