University Recreation (UREC) is currently seeking applicants for the Coordinator of Intramural Sports.

As a Student Affairs Health & Well-being department, UREC promotes healthy lifestyles through promoting and advancing healthy lifestyles through educational programs, participation opportunities and supportive services. Responsibilities

  • #1 Staff Leadership
    • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to approximately 75 Intramural Sports officials (student employees).
    • Develop and manage a comprehensive officiating development plan.
    • Responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, and evaluation of Intramural Sports officials in compliance with all applicable University guidelines.
    • Create and facilitate clinician training to prepare staff to lead officiating training on site.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of a leadership model for all Intramural Sports student staff.
    • Provides impactful mentorship and learning opportunities for the Graduate Assistant for Intramural Sports.
    • Serve as a visible presence in program spaces on a weekly basis to provide timely feedback to staff.
  • #2 Intramural Sports Programming
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Intramural Sports to develop and maintain a comprehensive, innovative, and engaging Intramural Sports program to meet the needs of a diverse student body with varying skills and interests, consistent with University Recreation program values and university expectations.
    • Schedule leagues, events, and tournaments during the Fall, Spring and Summer Semesters to fully utilize all applicable spaces operated by University Recreation.
    • Maintains up to date risk management protocols for all programs and ensures all UREC Intramural Sports rules and regulations to meet NIRSA and NFHS standards.
    • Affords assistance in the development and implementation of an effective sportsmanship model for participants.
  • #3 Participant Education
    • Oversight of Intramural Captain and Participant educational program development.
    • Ensures captains and participants complete training on Intramural Sports policies and procedures, sport rules, and sportsmanship.
    • Record all Intramural violations and address all ejected participants to provide learning opportunities for students.
    • Provides updates to ensure the accuracy and currency of Intramural Sports information on the website and related documents, leveraging technology to enhance program effectiveness.
  • #4 Assessment
    • Establish learning outcomes for officials and conduct at least one learning assessment annually.
    • Develop and assess learning outcomes for all officials in training.
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to conduct periodic evaluations to measure participant satisfaction, retention of sportsmanship procedures, and risk management issues.
    • Track participation data, facility usage for IM programming, as well as conduct needs assessments on a regular basis to inform changes.
  • #5 Administration and Collaboration
    • Serve as an active member of the Professional Staff Evening Facility and Program Supervision Team.
    • Supports Camp UREC through assisting with training and mentoring of Camp UREC Counselors as well as serving as a Summer Camp Supervisor on a rotating basis throughout the summer months.
    • Maintains accurate records.
    • Recommends purchases for Intramural Sports equipment and supplies.
    • Collaborates with colleagues in UREC, Student Affairs, and other divisions as appropriate, and is an active member on committees, commissions and task forces as assigned.
    • Engages in staff meetings and departmental events to support teammates and the department/university mission.
    • Maintains personnel files and manages student employee payroll to within 5% of approved budget.
    • Effectively utilize conferences and other professional development opportunities as tools for staying current in the field and broadening knowledge, skills and abilities in the role.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Minimum of one year of relevant experience (or two years of a Graduate Assistant experience)
    • Experience in sports officiating
    • Experience teaching or leading officials training
    • Experience supervising or leading employees in a sport/recreation setting
  • Preferred:
    • Master’s Degree in related field
    • Experience working in a collegiate Intramural Sports program
    • Certified High School or Collegiate Official
    • Experience developing and/or evaluating officials’ training programs
    • Experience supervising, training, scheduling, and mentoring college student employees
    • Experience with sports league management software
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team
