About the Role
Under general supervision, coordinates processing of applications, appointments, and privileging for staff and health professionals. Responsible for credentialing and privileging physicians and other healthcare professionals, managing meetings, resolving issues and complaints, ensuring adherence to quality regulations and policies, and maintaining credentials and privileges. May delegate responsibilities and provide status notifications.
Responsibilities
- Organizes and oversees the credentialing approval process for medical staff and allied health professionals, including new staff applications, reappointments, updated privileges, and primary source verification of licensure, education, and training.
- Maintains and validates credentialing information in the primary physician database.
- Prepares agendas and materials for high-level medical staff committees.
- Prepares and maintains permanent records (minutes) of committee proceedings and actions.
- Ensures follow-through on action items and policy changes, disseminating information as needed.
- Coordinates the credentialing database and associated modules, ensuring data accuracy and reporting to downstream systems.
- Monitors critical data for analysis and report generation.
- Plans, develops, and implements long- and short-term goals for medical staff in collaboration with department leaders.
- Handles physician queries and problems with professionalism and sensitivity.
- Collects and inputs call schedules, coordinates physician orientation, and supports medical staff functions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent and five years of medical staff/credentialing or healthcare setting experience.
- OR Associate degree in business, healthcare administration, applied sciences, or related field and two years of medical staff/credentialing or healthcare setting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field.
- Certification by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) or a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS).
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with medical staff and hospital personnel.
- Ability to actively participate in institutional initiatives, meetings, and committee work.
- Efficient and cost-effective resource management.
- Working knowledge of hospital accreditation, medical/allied staff credentialing, privileging, appointment, and licensure requirements.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work, multitask, and engage in continuous work redesign to improve efficiencies.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access) and internet resources.
Schedule
- Full-time: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 80 hours per pay period
- No on-call requirement
- No weekends
