3 part-time (18 hrs./week) positions available for the academic year (September 6, 2026 – May 15, 2027). Schedule is flexible; hours and days off will vary during August, J-Term, and Spring Break.
About the role
As a Cook’s Helper, you will assist cooks, bakers, or food-service staff in a campus dining facility by performing simple food-preparation, service, and cleaning tasks under close supervision.
Responsibilities
- Wash, peel, chop, dice, or grind vegetables, fruits, and other foods for cooking or salads.
- Prepare simple items such as toast, coffee, tea, cereal, eggs, sandwiches, and boiled vegetables.
- Assemble diet trays and arrange food for service; load food onto trucks or steam tables.
- Set up dining tables, serve food from steam tables, and collect trays, dishes, and utensils after meals.
- Dispose of food scraps and wash dishes, cutlery, and glassware manually or in an automatic dishwasher.
- Clean food trucks, dishwashing machines, iceboxes, walk-in refrigerators, and other kitchen equipment.
- Wash down kitchen, cafeteria, and related dining areas.
- Assist bakers by weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients; rolling dough; filling pans; and loading/unloading ovens.
- Operate pan and rack washing machines in the central food-processing plant; wash pots and pans.
- Clean bakery areas, work spaces, and refrigerators.
Requirements
- Familiarity with basic food-preparation methods, food-service procedures, and kitchen/bakery cleaning practices.
- Ability to follow simple verbal or written directions.
- Care in handling, washing, drying, and storing cooking/baking equipment and glassware.
Qualifications
Experience as a helper in a kitchen, bakery, hospital, hotel, or restaurant performing routine food-preparation, food-service, and cleaning tasks. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills is acceptable.
Pay
$21.01 – $22.41 per hour.
