Position Summary
About the role
The Salvation Army Northern Division Harbor Light Center Cook prepares meals for participants and employees in a commercial kitchen. The Cook also assists with meal planning.
Responsibilities
- Cook, prepare, and store a variety of food using standardized safe food handling guidelines and meeting health code.
- Meet special dietary needs of participants as directed (55%)
- Provide meal service (breakfast, lunch, dinner) in an inviting manner to participants and staff (15%)
- Clean and sanitize food service utensils, dishes, cookware, serveware, equipment, and areas (10%)
- Aid with meal planning utilizing ordered and donated food items, minimizing food waste (10%)
- Aid with meal preparation and cooking for special events and meetings (10%)
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- ServSafe Food Handler certification.
- One year of relevant experience required.
- Must pass background checks.
Qualifications
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Working knowledge of food service, nutritional guidelines, and best practices
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, scrubbing, food preparation, and cooking
- Ability to use PC and standard office equipment
