About the role
The Cook assists in the daily preparation of breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to recipes using various kitchen utensils and equipment. They assist in maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring compliance with health, licensing, and sanitation requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepares nourishing, appetizing, and well-balanced meals as per USDA/CACFP and Head Start/ECEAP standards and WAC's.
- Serves and distributes developmentally appropriate food to classrooms.
- Maintains all food safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and storage areas.
- Participates in inventory management, rotating stock, and reporting to the Head Cook.
- Assists in special center activities, such as parent meetings and policy council meetings.
- Shows interest in professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.
- Maintains confidentiality of program and client/participants related information.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Pass initial and periodic criminal and background checks.
- Pass initial and periodic Department of Early Learning (DEL) background check.
- Pass initial and periodic employee health clearance.
- Current Food Handler card.
- Current First Aid / CPR cards.
- Subject to initial and periodic TB screen.
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV / AIDS) training.
- Blood Borne Pathogen training.
- Subject to random drug screen.
- Sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
- Sign a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement annually.
Qualifications
- Experience in cooking and safety risk management.
- Understanding of interrelationships between services and systems.
- Ability to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to cultural issues and community practices.
- Accurate data documentation and recordkeeping skills.
- Strong customer service focus.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
Skills
- Knowledge of USDA/CACFP and Head Start/ECEAP standards.
