The Role
The ideal candidate will work within a team-centered environment to meet the department's commitment to serving Kentucky's Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in accordance with planned menus, portion control standards, and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Aid in coordinating daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, baking, cooking, sanitation, and dishwashing activities.
- Cook a variety of foods using methods such as baking, roasting, broiling, and frying while maintaining quality and timeliness.
- Support a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment by following proper food handling, cleaning, and infection control procedures.
- Work in a fast-paced dietary setting that requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Perform additional duties as assigned while helping ensure high-quality meal service for Veterans in a skilled nursing care environment.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: None
- Experience, Training, or Skills: Two years of cooking experience in an institutional or large scale commercial setting. Vocational training in food services will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Promotion
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
