Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide variety of food items, including main courses, side dishes, soups, salads, and baked goods, according to standardized recipes and production schedules.
- Follow menus and production sheets to ensure timely and efficient meal preparation.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, stoves, grills, steamers, mixers, slicers, and other food preparation tools.
- Maintain food safety and prevent contamination by adhering to HACCP guidelines, monitoring food temperatures and cooking times, practicing proper portion control and presentation.
- Assist with inventory management, monitoring food supplies, and informing Management or assigned supervisor of the items needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all sanitation and safety regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient food service operations.
- Follow all school policies and procedures.
- Assist with catering for special events or school functions as needed.
- Adapt recipes or prepare culturally relevant dishes when appropriate and as directed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Culinary associate’s degree or a degree in a related field of study preferred.
- A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy is strongly preferred but not required.
- One (1) year cooking experience in a food service, cafeteria or restaurant setting.
- Food Handler’s Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.
- Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
