About the Role
Liberty Senior Living is seeking an experienced Cook to prepare meals that maintain nutrition, flavor, appearance, tenderness, and quality for our residents. This role involves following recipes, modifying and developing new ones, and ensuring safe food handling practices in a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Follow recipes and assist with recipe modification and development.
- Adhere to production schedules based on forecasts and tallies; record and report over-production, underproduction, and waste.
- Prepare foods using methods designed to maintain nutrition, flavor, appearance, tenderness, and quality.
- Offer and prepare appropriate substitute food items when a resident dislikes a menu item.
- Implement and record menu changes as directed by the Executive Chef.
- Prepare foods to meet the special needs of individual residents, including special requests and dietary restrictions due to allergies.
- Document and communicate special items preparation.
- Advise the Executive Chef of inventory needs, usage, and shortages.
- Utilize safe food preparation methods for receiving, preparing, storing, cooling, freezing, holding, transporting, serving, and reheating foods.
- Monitor temperature records and checklists for holding and storing equipment to maintain safe food at all stages.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen; ensure and assist with cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas according to established checklists.
- Report and take immediate corrective action if safety or sanitation standards are not met.
- Create a positive dining experience for residents that promotes independence, choice, and well-being.
- Encourage participation in the dining program and meal activities.
- Solicit feedback from residents in the market café and convey recommendations to the supervisor regarding food quality and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor meal portion controls to meet resident requests and regulations; make recommendations to minimize waste.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, maintaining, monitoring, and tracking food and supplies.
- Demonstrate good stewardship of available resources (supplies, utilities, time).
- Actively participate in and implement quality performance in all job responsibilities, including interactions with residents, staff, and visitors.
- Promote teamwork and cooperation within the department and across other departments.
- Seek, recommend, or implement new methods for providing quality service and continuous improvement.
- Support the departmental mission and the “Liberty Cares” mission.
- Apply technical competence in nutrition and culinary services; maintain knowledge of organization and industry policies and practices.
- Report any items in need of repair to the Executive Chef.
- Perform all daily tasks in accordance with established facility and departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist with resident evacuations and secure the food service area in the event of a fire or other emergency.
- Assist with special event preparation, setup, and tear down.
- Attend in-service training and other work-related meetings as required or approved.
- Carry out special projects as identified.
- Help with other areas of the building as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma.
- Two or more years of restaurant experience.
- Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment.
- Must attend trainings and department meetings as necessary.
