Cook - Entry (Brick Walk Cafe)/Seasonal Employment
About the role
The Brick Walk Cafe is a fast casual restaurant with a menu featuring snacks and lunches as well as healthier choices, all prepared fresh daily. It also includes an ice cream sundae bar and coffee shop. Open 11:30 to 8:00 p.m. during the summer season, it is located off Bestor Plaza with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Responsibilities
- Follows recipe cards to prepare food items ensuring taste, presentation, and temperature.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Communicates effectively with Front of House managers regarding buffet items and their ingredients.
- Performs proper storage, labeling, and product rotation (FIFO).
- Aids in dishwashing duties.
- Acts as a positive team player, being dependable and punctual.
- May work full-time or part-time with potential for overtime, depending on schedule needs.
- Typically works lunch and evening services in eight-hour shifts, often requiring weekend and holiday work.
- May be required to inventory food station items nightly, weekly, or monthly and report to the Sous Chef or senior cook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Compensation starts at $16.00/Hour and may increase to $18.00/Hour with experience.
- Flexible scheduling options available, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- No employer-provided housing is available for this position.
- Applicants should arrange for their own housing or find a commutable location.

Schedule
Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required. Typically works an eight-hour shift with a start time varying between 5am to 5pm. Final schedule confirmed with management at the time of interview and offer of employment.
About the Referral Program
Chautauqua Institution offers a Referral Bonus Program for active employees who refer new hires. Active employees can earn a $500 bonus (less taxes) for a new hire who is employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. For seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must be employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season, which is the last Sunday in August.
