Job Summary
University Housing is seeking Cooks to join our team! You will perform food production, interact with customers, and provide exceptional customer service in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment.
Work Schedule
- Multiple vacancies may be available
- Primary schedule typically consists of five, 8-hour shifts per week
- Schedules may rotate every other weekend
- Operational and work schedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year, including summer and winter break hours
- This is a full-time ongoing appointment
- Work schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer
- Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand
Key Job Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
- Adhere to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
- Train and guide student workers
- Greet customers, answer questions, and provide information regarding food preparation and associated activities
- Clean, inspect, and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
Department
Dining and Culinary Services provides affordable meals made from locally sourced ingredients and innovative dining options to residents, guests, and staff. We have market-place style locations in six buildings throughout campus.
Compensation
- The starting hourly wage is $19.25 or higher based on qualifications
- This position includes significant night and weekend shift differentials, a free meal for every shift, and a $1,000 referral bonus for each person hired

Required Qualifications
- 1 year of food production experience in a professional kitchen setting
- ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 1 year of institution-scale food service production experience in a professional kitchen setting
- Leadership or training experience
- ServSafe Food Manager Certificate
Education
A high school diploma is preferred
