About the role

Join the Food Service Team at The Ivy at Watertown as a full-time Cook. This position offers a creative environment where you can make a meaningful impact on our residents' well-being in a great restaurant-like atmosphere without the hectic restaurant schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as directed by the Food Service Director.
  • Work in accordance with Serve Safe requirements, maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen at all times, following all safe food handling procedures and protocols.
  • Adhere to all Department of Public Health rules and regulations for food production, maintenance, and sanitation of the kitchen, equipment, and surrounding areas (e.g., service area, dining room, storage, freezer, walk-in cooler, and other refrigeration systems).
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen work area, equipment, and dining room tables and chairs.
  • Understand dietary and allergy requirements/restrictions of residents and serve food accordingly.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and safety procedures when using equipment, lifting, bending, and adhering to "Stay Safe" standards in the commercial kitchen. Report all personal or work-related injuries immediately.
  • Prepare all food for catered functions, including assembly on display trays with appropriate garnishes.
  • Assist the chef with overall kitchen operations.
  • Sanitize all food preparation work surfaces on a clean-as-you-go basis, as needed or assigned.
  • Supervise utility and wait staff as applicable or appropriate.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, understand, and prepare recipes without direction.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of cooking fundamentals.
  • Ability to prepare meats, fish, soups, sauces, vegetables, and desserts, garnishing plates in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and safe food handling.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of elders and disabled individuals.
  • Current Serve-Safe Certification.
  • Current Allergy Awareness Training.
  • Completion of anti-choking training.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
