Cook Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals according to approved menus, recipes, and therapeutic diet requirements
- Cook meals in accordance with Federal, State, and Local food safety regulations
- Maintain high standards for food quality, portioning, presentation, and meal timing
- Review production sheets, resident census, and menus to determine food quantities and preparation needs
- Prepare regular, modified, and texture-altered diets as directed
- Safely operate commercial kitchen equipment including: Convection ovens, Steamers, Mixers, Food processors, Tilt skillets, Meat slicers, Ranges and grills
- Monitor and record food temperatures during preparation and service
- Follow proper sanitation, cleaning, storage, labeling, and handwashing procedures
- Assist with food prep including washing, cutting, slicing, portioning, and stocking
- Maintain clean kitchen workstations, equipment, floors, and storage areas
- Support meal service for residents in a long-term care and rehabilitation setting
- Aid the Dietary Manager and kitchen team as needed
- Complete additional duties assigned by leadership
Qualifications
- Preferred Experience: 1+ year of experience in: Long-term care, Nursing home dietary services, Healthcare food service, Assisted living, Hospital kitchen operations; 2+ years of experience as a cook in a high-volume or commercial kitchen preferred
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred
Skills & Requirements
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion controls
- Experience preparing therapeutic or modified diets preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Reliable attendance and teamwork skills
