About the Role

We are seeking a Cook to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services.

Responsibilities

• Check menu cards, special and/or modified diet lists to determine types and quantities of foods to be prepared.
• Prepare or supervise the washing, trimming, cooking, and seasoning of all food items.
• Utilize kitchen equipment such as blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, and tenderizers in food preparation.
• Prepare food using steam kettles, grills, and ovens, maintaining correct temperatures.
• Taste foods for consistency and seasoning, making corrections as needed.
• Apportion servings and prepare or direct the preparation and distribution of food to serving areas.
• Inspect foods and meats in work and storage areas for compliance with storage, safety, and sanitary standards.
• Instruct and supervise dietary aides, assisting in orientation and in-service training programs.
• Participate in daily menu conferences and confer with the Supervisor on menus, food preparation, recipes, and use of leftovers.

Qualifications

• Elementary school graduation through the eighth grade, plus a formal course in basic cooking principles.
• New York City Department of Health Food Protection Course Certificate.
• Two years of full-time, paid experience as a Cook, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Ability to read and write English and understand instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Three years of cooking experience.
• Experience in a high-volume industrial kitchen, hotel, or restaurant environment.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and production.
• Ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude.

Skills

• Proficiency with equipment such as Rational Combi Ovens, industrial kettles, Hobart Robot Coupe Chopper, Hobart Quantum Scales, Hobart Mixer, Koch Mixer, Ribbon Mixer, and Auto-Pump Filler R-60.
