About the role
This position performs defined duties related to providing food services, including meal preparation, serving, kitchen sanitation, inventory management, and supervision of interns and volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Prepares meals following approved menus for breakfast, lunch, desserts, and special diet items; performs chopping, slicing, mixing, measuring, and other prep tasks.
- Cooks and warms food to proper internal temperatures according to safety guidelines; inspects food quality and preps for upcoming meals.
- Operates kitchen equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
- Serves prepared food, regulates meal eligibility, ensures portion control, and maintains records of meals served.
- Sanitizes and cleans kitchen surfaces, equipment, utensils, pots, pans, dishes, and trash cans in compliance with Henry County policies.
- Maintains cleanliness of refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms; completes daily temperature logs and labels all food and non-food products by date.
- Inspects food and supply deliveries against orders; correctly stores products and completes requisition forms.
- Supervises, coordinates, and trains interns and volunteers.
- Uses computers for data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and other software to complete essential functions.
- Communicates with county officials, supervisors, employees, clients, contractors, and the public to coordinate work and exchange information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Related experience in cooking, baking, culinary arts, or a comparable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license.
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification (preferred).
Skills
- Knowledge of local government operations, food service policies, and modern office practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and similar programs.
- Skill in operating cooking equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact courteously with employees, the public, and coworkers.
- Ability to work flexible hours, multitask, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters professionally.
- Ability to process payments, manage budgets, and perform accounting tasks using computers.
- Ability to operate office equipment such as copiers.
Physical Demands
The role involves light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. It demands mental acuity, including logical decision-making, verbal communication, and close visual acuity.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure environment within a kitchen and office setting.
