Job Description The Cook is responsible for cooking and preparing food; maintaining a sanitary kitchen environment; stocking, dating, and organizing food items from truck deliveries; completing proper food cost and portioning; and calculating foods on weekly count sheets. This position supports the Home Delivered Meals and Congregate Meals Programs. This position is considered safety sensitive and will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace. Responsibilities Essential Duties Cooking and preparing food according to established or special menus Assisting in overseeing the work of inmates, volunteers, and other personnel Serving food to customers Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment Maintaining records of inventories, assisting in ordering supplies and determining the cost of meals Adhering to proper safe handling of food by ServSafe regulations Loading food containers into trucks for delivery Rotating stock and putting up truck deliveries Sweeping, mopping, and cleaning the kitchen Cleaning and operating food service equipment Working in cold temperatures while bringing items in and out of a freezer and/or cooler Performing other duties of a similar nature or level Other Job Requirements/Information This job will require fingerprinting. This job will require a 50-pound lift test. This job will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing. This position may require: 24 hours on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour, and rotating shifts. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma, or G.E.D. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Valid driver's license from state of residency Preferred Qualifications A degree in culinary or related field 3+ years working in culinary field of working in a fast-paced food environment Experience working with older adults Experience with food handling and food preparation CPR, First Aid and ServSafe (within 6 months of hire) For more information about this department, please click here .
