Position Summary

The Cook’s primary responsibility is to prepare and serve meals to the residents. They ensure that the food is of the highest quality and meets the residents’ expectations. Additionally, the Cook maintains the cleanliness of the food service area. In the absence of the Manager or Lead Cook, the Cook supervises the kitchen staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Applies sanitation and safety techniques while working.
  • Responsible for all kitchen activities in the absence of the Food and Nutrition Manager/Lead Cook.
  • Prepares, cooks meals according to menus and recipes and adheres to all diets.
  • Makes measurements and mixes food ingredients according to recipes and menus, preparing all types of food according to accepted food production methods and regulatory requirements.
  • P Practices and applies portion control during preparation and service of all diets.
  • Maintains logs.
  • Communicates and changes or substitutions on daily menus to supervisor.
  • Ensures proper labeling, dating and rotation of foods in all storage areas.
  • Works in accordance with safety guidelines established by the community with emphasis on the use of proper body mechanics and safe work practices.
  • Familiar with food service disaster plan.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school graduate or GED.
  • Training and Experience: Must have one to two years recent experience as a cook.
  • Serve Safe Certification.
