About the role

Responsibilities
- Prepare and produce meals for Kindred Table and Crowne Plaza Lansing hotel events.
- Maintain safety and sanitation standards.
- Uphold a high-quality food standard by consistently following standardized recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Ensure the coolers are stocked to pars.
- Review daily par sheets to complete prep.
- Complete daily cleaning tasks and any other assigned cleaning duty; maintain cleanliness standards.
- Assist with all culinary needs and steward functions as necessary.
- Report any equipment failures or supply shortages to the Director of Culinary Services.
Requirements
- Demonstrate proficiency in diverse cooking techniques and food preparation methods, with a solid grasp of various cuisines and dietary requirements.
- Ability to follow food safety regulations and sanitation practices, ensuring a clean and compliant kitchen environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the primary languages used in the workplace.
- Ability to efficiently prioritize tasks and manage time to meet service demands and service standards in a dynamic kitchen setting.
- Proven experience in a collaborative environment, contributing to a positive workplace culture where all perspectives are valued and respected.
- Willingness to adapt to changing demands, including accommodating special dietary requests and adjusting menus as necessary.
- Capable of identifying and addressing issues swiftly, including reporting equipment malfunctions and stock shortages to ensure uninterrupted service.
- Strong focus on detail in food presentation and recipe adherence, consistently delivering high-quality dishes.
- Familiarity with inventory management processes, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring timely disposal of outdated items to maintain food quality and safety.
- Basic computational skills to accurately measure ingredients, manage portion sizes, and assist with inventory calculations.
- Ability to perform most work tasks in a moderate environment controlled by hotel systems, with the capacity to work in extreme temperatures, including freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), for extended periods of up to four hours.
- Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 10 hours in length in a limited space.
- Ability to position self to fulfill cleaning tasks.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to navigate necessary software and applications.
- Ability to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally maneuver carts or equipment weighing up to 250 pounds.
- Ability to maneuver in tight spaces.
Qualifications
- A high school or equivalent education is preferred.
- Minimum of six months of prior food service experience is preferred.
- Must be the minimum age to serve alcohol in line with any local legislative requirements.
