Controls Technician, Data Center Capacity Delivery
About the role
The Controls Technician for Service & Construction of the Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) within Amazon data centers is responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment and controls systems. This role involves working in various data center sites, performing point-to-point checks, and handling network configurations and communication tests.
Responsibilities
- Perform point-to-point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
- First-line diagnostics and troubleshooting of instrumentation associated with BMS and EPMS in data centers.
- Network configurations and communication testing between third-party devices and controllers or servers.
- Configuration and calibration of sensors.
- Able to read and understand electrical schematics, control panel drawings.
- Basic understanding of close-loop controls, field sensors scaling, AND/OR functions typically performed by industrial controllers.
- Supervise low-voltage electrical contractors who perform wiring and installation of field devices.
- Commissioning and systems-level testing support.
- Provide red-lined drawings and recommendations based on field work and verify accuracy of as-built drawings.
- Absorb and troubleshoot during testing and commissioning.
- Ensure all personnel on site utilize proper safety methodology.
- Work on-call and a rotating schedule when required and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization.
Requirements
- High school or equivalent diploma.
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field with 1+ years of relevant industrial Controls or HVAC controls experience, OR 3+ years of relevant industrial or HVAC controls experience in lieu of a degree.
- Basic understanding of Industrial controls system, knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, relays and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment in a data center, hospitals, large commercial complex, water, power, oil & gas or similar industries.
- 1+ years of experience working with low voltage controls, wiring, networking signals, electrical and mechanical systems, computers and operating systems.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher certification.
- Experience using common communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet, and/or MODBUS).
- 5+ years of experience in controls/automation, construction or related field in a technical environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience in data centers or mission-critical environments.
- Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low-voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling.
- Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
- 4+ years of military service.
Skills
- Technical background and experience in installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of field sensors, controllers, wiring, networking and programming associated with the industrial controls systems.
- Basic understanding of close loop controls, field sensors scaling, AND/OR functions typically performed by industrial controllers.
- Ability to read and understand Electrical schematics, control panel drawings.

Pay
Base salary range for this position is $32.00 - $57.00 USD hourly.
Schedule
Rotating shift schedule with on-call requirements.
