About the role
The Controls Technician for Service & Construction of the Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) within Amazon data centers is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial controls systems. This role requires a strong technical background and experience in various aspects of building management and electrical power monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of BMS and EPMS systems in data centers.
- Perform point-to-point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
- Configure and calibrate sensors and perform network configurations and communication tests.
- Supervise low-voltage electrical contractors during installations.
- Support commissioning and systems-level testing.
- Provide red-lined drawings and recommendations based on field work and verify accuracy of as-built drawings.
- Conduct root cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
- Avoid safety hazards and ensure compliance with safety methodologies.
- Work on-call and rotate shifts as needed, responding to after-hours emergencies.
- Support basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field with 1+ years of relevant industrial Controls or HVAC controls experience, or 3+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Basic understanding of industrial controls systems, knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, relays, and troubleshooting using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
- Experience working with low voltage controls, wiring, networking signals, electrical and mechanical systems, computers, and operating systems.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher certification.
- Experience using common communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet, and/or MODBUS).
- 5+ years of experience in controls/automation, construction, or related fields in a technical environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience in data centers or mission-critical environments.
- Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
- Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
- 4+ years of military service.
