Controls Technician, Data Center Capacity Delivery

About the role

The Controls Technician will be responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining building management systems (BMS) and electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS) within Amazon data centers. This role requires a strong background in industrial controls, HVAC systems, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform point-to-point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with instrumentation associated with BMS and EPMS in data centers.
  • Configure and calibrate sensors and field devices.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and control panel drawings.
  • Work with low-voltage electrical contractors to supervise wiring and installation of field devices.
  • Support commissioning and systems-level testing.
  • Provide red-lined drawings and recommendations based on fieldwork and verify accuracy of as-built drawings.
  • Conduct root cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Assist with basic support tasks such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, and task prioritization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field with 1+ years of relevant industrial Controls or HVAC controls experience, or 3+ years of relevant industrial or HVAC controls experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Basic understanding of industrial controls systems, knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, relays, and troubleshooting using standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment in a data center, hospitals, large commercial complexes, water, power, oil & gas, or similar industries.
  • 1+ years of experience working with low voltage controls, wiring, networking signals, electrical and mechanical systems, computers, and operating systems.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts and overtime as required.

Qualifications

  • International Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher certification.
  • Experience using common communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet, and/or MODBUS).
  • 5+ years of experience in controls/automation, construction, or related fields in a technical environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience in data centers or mission-critical environments.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
  • Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
  • 4+ years of military service.
