About the role

Reporting to the Projects Construction Manager, the Project Controls Engineer (PCE) is responsible for scheduling, planning, estimating, and cost control tasks, including analysis and reporting. The role involves developing and updating a master schedule, verifying contractor schedules, and reviewing baseline schedules using Microsoft Project and other scheduling software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a master schedule with interrelationships between projects.
  • Create and analyze detailed project schedules.
  • Develop and use performance trackers for manpower, equipment, and construction progress.
  • Organize, analyze, and present cost and schedule information.
  • Prepare estimates and evaluate contractor cost proposals.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the team and other personnel.
  • Prepare reports for various purposes.
  • Track invoice flow, develop work schedules, and monitor costs.
  • Assist in developing project work breakdown structures and sequencing.
  • Collect progress data from site personnel and compile it into progress reports.
  • Update master and project schedules.
  • Review contractor baseline schedules and verify monthly updates for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in reviewing and auditing contractor invoices.
  • Prepare status reports for progress, schedule, and cost.
  • Generate cash flow reports and graphs.
  • Prepare what-if analyses based on cost and time impacts.
  • Establish project budgets based on available information.
  • Review and evaluate contractor proposals and change order requests.
  • Promote safety, health, and environmental awareness across all projects.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant plant construction experience (e.g., process plants, power plants).
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations associated with construction on mine sites.
  • Experience in mine process plant projects preferred.
  • Degree in Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Construction) is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Project software for report writing, cost reporting, and scheduling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Scheduling experience for complex heavy industrial projects is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasionally lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to temperature and humidity extremes.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, and gloves.
