The Data Center Capacity Delivery team is looking for a Controls Manager to oversee the building management systems and electrical power monitoring system (BMS/EPMS) deployment and service within Amazon data centers.
About the role
The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of highly technically skilled individuals, with an industrial Controls System background, project management skills, and a mechanical, electrical, or technology foundation. This role requires the ability to think broadly and strategically, aligning building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business.
Responsibilities
- Implement and track team goals, reporting the status of ongoing projects.
- Develop launch plans for new hires, identify team needs, and conduct interviews.
- Install, program, and troubleshoot BMS/EPMS systems and/or industrial controls systems.
- Articulate thoughts clearly and concisely in writing.
- Interpret electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, and industrial HVAC systems.
- Ascertain customer needs to develop project scope and specifications.
- Manage project engineering to align scope of work with design intent and customer needs.
- Read and interpret specifications, implementing them in the work environment.
- Develop drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes, including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics, interconnection, and wire diagrams.
- Create logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex devices such as Programmable Logical Controllers and Distributed Control Systems.
- Perform inspections, testing, and commissioning of facility systems.
- Provide technical assistance to internal customers.
- Coordinate project work internally and externally to ensure on-time completion within budget.
Travel required: 50% to 75% to construction job sites across Arizona, Nevada, California, and other regions within the US-West territory to support construction and data center product delivery.
Requirements
- Experience with industrial control systems, both hardware and software.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science plus 10+ years of relevant controls experience, OR 14+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.
- 10+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals.
- 10+ years of experience hiring, promoting, disciplining, and developing teams of controls professionals.
- 10+ years of experience in controls management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
- 10+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI, and submittal tracking) associated with controls and project execution.
- 10+ years of experience managing deployment of complex electrical and mechanical controls systems, including large-scale power distribution or generation, and cooling systems.
- 6+ years of experience developing, monitoring, and maintaining critical path master and micro project schedules for complex large-scale mission-critical projects.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver complex construction projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals.
- 10+ years of experience in project management and vendor management.
- 4+ years of experience in data center system-level architecture and electrical engineering principles.
- 4+ years of experience in data center system-level architecture and mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience designing data centers or critical MEP infrastructure.
- Certified as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
- 5+ years of military service.
Pay
Base salary range: $153,200.00 - $254,500.00 USD annually.
