Controls Lead Systems Specialist

As the on-site project leader, you will plan, execute, and complete control systems projects for assigned customers. This role involves hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, system and network commissioning, and project closeout, while ensuring overall financial success, customer satisfaction, and adherence to safety and legal standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and complete control systems projects, including hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, commissioning, and closeout.
• Manage the financial aspects of assigned projects, including costs, billings, collections, and profitability.
• Actively pursue selling change orders to enhance project scope and revenue.
• Coordinate communication with customers throughout all project phases, ensuring satisfaction and proper warranty execution.
• Provide work direction to subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative staff.
• Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal legal requirements and maintain high ethical standards on the job.
• Adhere to and enforce safety standards for Johnson Controls staff and subcontractors.
• Complete installation hardware design and software programming using established standards.
• Communicate technical and business-related issues effectively with clients, staff, and subcontractors.
• Manage the selection, ordering, budgeting, and delivery of project materials, securing pricing and availability from vendors and subcontractors.
• Oversee subcontractor payment and billing processes.
• Coordinate jobsite activities, ensuring installation aligns with Johnson Controls literature and project requirements.
• Manage and complete the loading, device verification, and commissioning of all system controllers.
• Validate complete system functionality and resolve issues to ensure proper operation.
• Provide accurate project as-built and commissioning documentation.
• Complete project billings in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining positive cash flow and profitability goals.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical assistance to system technicians, electrical installers, and system designers.
• Ensure delegated tasks are completed accurately, on-time, billed, within budget, and within contract scope.
• Communicate project status to management and provide monthly forecasts of revenue, costs, and gross margin.
• Send warranty letters to customers upon substantial project completion and ensure proper warranty execution.
• Develop project plans and coordinate resources for timely and cost-effective project completion.
• Provide site-specific training for owner/operators on system operation, ensuring proper documentation and manuals are delivered.
• Maintain long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Attend job progress meetings as required.
• Split time between office and job sites (approximately 50% on-site) to support project planning and execution.
• Coordinate with project engineers on bundled jobs to deliver cost-efficient solutions that exceed customer expectations.
• Adhere to safety standards with a high regard for employee, contractor, and subcontractor safety.

Requirements

• Technical associate degree preferred but not required.
• 6 years of related field experience in the HVAC/Controls industry or similar Building Automation Systems, with experience in system design or engineering.
• Relevant technical hands-on experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
• Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
• Demonstrated ability to perform work independently.
• Strong personal computer skills.
• Knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to direct the work of others.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Pay

Hourly range: $36.00–$50.00. The final rate will be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market alignment.
