About the role
We are seeking a skilled PLC programmer to join our Controls Team. This role involves developing and testing template PLC programs for mechanical equipment across multiple data centers, ensuring they run reliably on real hardware.
Responsibilities
- Develop and test template PLC programs for mechanical equipment such as chillers, air handlers, pumps, etc., ensuring they run on real hardware.
- Program across more than one PLC platform (Siemens, Codesys, or virtualized environments), creating portable code that works regardless of the underlying controller.
- Turn sequence of operations (SOOs) into working PLC code, identifying and resolving gaps and contradictions in the process.
- Wire PLCs, IO, and sensors, and debug programs against real IO and failure conditions to ensure robustness.
- Write structured, reusable code that future engineers can understand and reuse, reducing the need for repetitive work.
- Test programs against failure and edge cases, not just the expected path, and address issues in the lab rather than during deployment.
Requirements
- Experience writing and testing PLC programs for mechanical equipment, chillers, air handlers, pumps, or similar, and having them run on real hardware.
- Programming experience across multiple PLC platforms (Siemens, Codesys, or virtualized environments).
- Ability to turn sequence of operations into working PLC code and catch issues before they reach the controller.
- Experience wiring PLCs, IO, and sensors, and tracing faults to their physical causes.
- Structured and reusable coding practices that allow for efficient maintenance and expansion.
- Testing against failure and edge cases, not just the expected path, and addressing issues in the lab rather than during deployment.
Qualifications
- Experience with Structured Text and the IEC 61131-3 languages.
- Experience with BMS or SCADA integration over BACnet and Modbus.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or virtualized PLC testing.
Skills
- Strong programming skills in PLC languages.
- Experience with data center mechanical systems (chiller plants, CRAH/CRAC, fan wall units).
- Knowledge of BMS or SCADA systems.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or virtualized PLC testing.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation range of $200,000 - $250,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
- Equity in the form of stock options.
- Commitment to pay equity and transparency.
- Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
- Committed to paying for arrest and conviction records.
Pay
$200,000 - $250,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
Schedule
Flexible schedule to accommodate the demands of the role.
