Controls Engineer - Custom Industrial Automation

About the role

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join our team and play a key role in the development of innovative automation systems from initial design through customer startup. As a growing industrial automation company, we design and build custom turnkey automation systems for manufacturers across a variety of industries, including robotic assembly systems, material handling equipment, testing systems, vision inspection applications, and lean manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems
• Develop and modify HMI applications
• Configure and integrate industrial networks and automation hardware
• Support robotic and machine vision integrations
• Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and related documentation
• Participate in machine startup, debug, testing, and commissioning activities
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, machine builders, and customers throughout the project lifecycle
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
• Travel occasionally to customer sites for installation and startup support

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical discipline

Skills

• Experience programming PLCs, preferably Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms
• Experience with HMI development and industrial automation systems
• Familiarity with robotics, machine vision, and motion control systems is a plus
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and project coordination abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced custom automation environment

Pay

$90k-130k/year
