About the role
Dometic is seeking a passionate Controls Engineer to join our Pompano Beach, FL team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role involves defining functional and performance requirements, coordinating system-level design and schematics, and ensuring seamless integration of electronics, software, refrigeration systems, and mechanical components.
Main Responsibilities
- Define functional, performance, and control requirements for HVAC systems.
- Translate HVAC thermodynamic behavior into engineering specifications.
- Design, tune, and validate HVAC control algorithms.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and communication protocols.
- Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.
- Support production launch and manufacturing readiness.
- Develop and review test plans, drawings, and support documentation.
- Support firmware updates and troubleshooting on legacy products as needed.
- Lead troubleshooting and aftersales technical support.

Qualifications and experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.
- Handson experience with HVAC or refrigeration systems, including thermodynamics, pressure/temperature relationships, component behavior, and system diagnostics.
- Experience defining system level requirements and translating HVAC behavior into control logic or software specifications.
- Familiarity with embedded control systems, microcontrollers, and software/hardware interfaces.
- Experience integrating or troubleshooting PLC-based or embedded control systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff experience a plus).
- Understanding of communication interfaces (CAN, J1939, NMEA2K, Modbus, SPI, I2C, etc.).
- Experience with HVAC system testing, instrumentation, data logging, and analysis.
- Experience writing or reviewing test plans and control strategies.
- Strong understanding of software design, development, validation, and documentation.
- Experience in programming with C / C++.
- Understanding of industrial automation fundamentals and the ability to interface embedded firmware with PLC-controlled equipment.
