About the role
The AWS Data Center Global Services team is seeking an individual to contribute to the Controls & Technology organization by joining the Controls Design Engineering team (CDE). The CDE team provides Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) design coordination globally.
Responsibilities
- Track, document, communicate, and enhance global data center design standards with a focus on control, automation, and electrical power monitoring systems.
- Provide Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) design coordination globally.
- Deliver consistent standards for data center controls systems, as well as overall mechanical and electrical design practices.
- Collaborate with multiple teams including construction, programmers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers to accomplish initiative goals.
- Create, maintain, and disseminate specification documents that pertain to global projects.
- Create, maintain, and disseminate project specific scope of work (SOW) documents including global design standards.
- Coordinate with regional project managers to review and finalize each project's SOW.
- Manage and prioritize requests for information on new construction builds, existing site facilities support, and legacy site enhancement projects.
- Interact with AWS cloud services and other applications to present, archive, and analyze accumulated data.
- Manage and support project initiatives, anticipate roadblocks and risks, and provide escalation management.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of building operations, mechanical plant strategies, BMS/EPMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line-ups, one line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts.
- Data center redundancy, mechanical failure strategies, energy and water conservation best-case practices, and data reporting analytics.
- Experience operating in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity.
- Innovation of new solutions to support initiatives, team, and company goals.
- Ability to lead and facilitate collaboration with multiple teams including construction, programmers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers as necessary to accomplish initiative goals.
- Strong leadership skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or 5+ years of experience in building automation systems (BMS) and/or electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS) design and deployment.
- 2+ years experience with data center or "mission-critical" facility control systems.
- 2+ years of experience with HVAC systems, mechanical plant strategies, control programming concepts, low voltage electrical and/or experience with electrical distribution systems, one-line diagrams, and power monitoring.
- Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field, or 7+ years of experience in controls design for mission-critical facilities.
- Knowledge of Modbus, BACnet, and other industrial communication protocols.
- Experience creating technical specifications and scope of work documents.
- Project management experience coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience with vendor selection, bid review, and RFI processes.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and data analytics platforms.
Skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional certification.
