Role Description

The Controls Engineer plays a crucial role in the Engineering team, focusing on reducing machine downtime and improving system efficiency. This position involves troubleshooting and programming of PLCs, coordinating with external parties, and ensuring optimal production line performance.

  • Developing and implementing software and hardware changes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Troubleshooting and programming of PLCs to resolve issues, improve efficiency, and quality.
  • Contact and coordinate work with outside contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Work with other departments to ensure smooth operation of production lines.
  • Maintain accurate records of part-specific parameters and changes, including requisition tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Set up and maintain adequate parts and supplies to minimize production downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of machines and other assets, including repair, drawings, diagrams, and manuals, and implement a preventive maintenance program.
  • Aid in launch programs as needed, maintain proper housekeeping, and adhere to ISO 14001 & IATF16949 procedures and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) with three (3) plus years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with PLCs required (ControlLogix, MicroLogix, and CompactLogix – Rockwell software), including understanding ladder logic and making programming changes.
  • Siemens programming experience a plus.
  • Experience with automation equipment (Fanuc / ABB Robots and Vision Systems).
  • Experience with electric torque control equipment (Atlas Copco / Stanley).

  • The ability to supervise plant maintenance personnel during vacation and absence periods of Maintenance Engineer.
  • Superb interpersonal skills, analytical skills, problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, communication skills (both written and oral), ability to manage multiple priorities, and self-motivation.
