Controls and Automation Engineer
Job Description
Develop, modify, and maintain PLC and machine control programs.
Configure industrial control systems, HMIs, drives, motion controllers, and related automation hardware.
Support machine startup, commissioning, and performance optimization.
Create and maintain I/O lists, wiring documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
Troubleshooting & Support
Troubleshoot PLC programs, electrical circuits, field devices, and machine control systems.
Diagnose issues involving sensors, motors, drives, safety systems, and communications networks.
Support production and maintenance teams in resolving equipment downtime.
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Provide hands-on support during commissioning, startup, and equipment upgrades.
Documentation & Standards
Create and maintain electrical drawings, controls documentation, and operating procedures.
Ensure engineering documentation accurately reflects installed equipment.
Support development of controls and electrical design standards.
Maintain revision control of drawings, software, and project documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in industrial controls, machine controls, automation, or electrical engineering
- Experience programming PLCs and industrial controllers
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics
- Understanding of industrial electrical systems, control circuits, and machine wiring practices
- Experience working with sensors, actuators, relays, VFDs, and motor control systems
- Experience troubleshooting, I/O signals and machine communications
- Ability to work independently in both office and manufacturing environments
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
