Controllership/Accounting positions - Evergreen

Responsibilities
- Understand tools used for associate upskilling (e.g., Power Apps, Power Query, Power Automate, Cloud, RPA, Gen AI).
- Develop innovative solutions across Controllership and Finance to address high-priority challenges and enhance operational efficiencies.
- Cook up research and implementation of new/revised accounting policies and procedures.
- Enhance job performance and workflow through recommendations.
- Advise senior management on complex accounting transactions and reporting.
- Lead projects for new/enhanced systems and processes.
- Provide financial data analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.
- Prepare complex financial information for auditors, IRS, state examiners, and other regulatory agencies.
- Conduct technical accounting research for financial statements and related data.
- Implement new GAAP and STAT accounting changes.
- Participate in industry trade groups.
- Ensure accounting compliance with external auditors and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to inquiries from state insurance departments, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage special projects as advised by senior management.
- Provide updates/presentations to internal stakeholders.
Requirements
This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis. The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of the following location(s): 1 Nationwide Blvd, Columbus Ohio. Work schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote.
This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration; accounting major and degree preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications/Designations: Progress towards CPA preferred.
- Experience: Four to six years of related accounting experience; insurance experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: GAAP and/or STAT knowledge and/or functional business area regulatory requirements. Complex financial statement preparation, including consolidation of companies/subsidiaries. Principles of taxation and the related impact on financial statement preparation. Accounting and/or business computer systems. Company organizational structure and products and services. Verbal and written communication skills for internal/external contacts. Ability to analyze, discover and solve accounting problems, to interpret financial documents and data and to analyze and interpret legal requirements. Project management skills. Ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements relative to the impact on financial statement preparation and to the formulation of company or business area policies and procedures. Ability to effectively operate a personal computer and related software using advanced techniques. Ability to apply accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to specialized, unique and/or nonrecurring complex problems.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full-time schedule.
The national salary range for Specialist, Accounting : $79,500.00-$148,500.00
The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Accounting : $79,500.00 - $119,500.00
