Controller - National Market - Full-Time or Part-Time

About the role
As a Controller, you will serve as the outsourced Controller/CFO for multiple nonprofit clients, guiding financial operations, improving internal controls, and supporting mission-driven decision-making. This role involves regular interaction with clients, their staff, Board of Directors, and Finance Committees, both virtually and on-site.
Responsibilities
- Transform nonprofit client financial departments to align with their mission
- Prepare financial reports for management and Board presentations
- Recommend and implement improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, and compliance policies
- Support client strategy and best practices
- Handle transactional activities: accounts payable, accounts receivable (revenue recognition and billing), payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and workpaper maintenance
- Perform analysis, data visualization, budgeting, and forecasting
- Manage grant allocations, funder reporting, and annual audit preparation
- Provide training for clients and staff
Requirements
- Passion for working with or supporting nonprofit organizations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- 5–7+ years of accounting experience
- Experience working in a remote environment (preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple clients independently and respond promptly
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with multiple GL packages, particularly QuickBooks and electronic bill pay systems
Qualifications (preferred)
- Nonprofit accounting, public accounting, or consulting experience
- CPA certification
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Pay
Starting annual base salary: $100,000–$125,000 (for a 35-hour work week, non-exempt position). Total compensation may include overtime pay and bonuses. Professional development reimbursement and technology stipend provided annually.
