About the Role

This isn't a traditional Controller position focused solely on accounting. It's an opportunity to become an influential business leader. You'll work closely with executive leadership to guide the financial direction of a growing organization, improve systems, strengthen financial controls, mentor a talented accounting team, enhance operational efficiency, and support strategic initiatives. You'll partner with leaders across Sales, Operations, Customer Experience, Production, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Human Resources to improve profitability and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead and mentor the Accounting Assistant, Billing & Accounts Receivable Specialist, and Staff Accountant/Payroll Administrator.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and measurable performance standards.

Financial Management

  • Oversee all accounting operations including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Payroll, Bank Reconciliations, Collections, Expense Reporting, and Sales Tax Compliance.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Provide meaningful financial analysis that supports business growth.
  • Monitor profitability and identify opportunities to improve operational performance.
  • Assist executive leadership with financial modeling and strategic planning.
  • Manage cash flow and optimize the timing of vendor payments.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee inventory accounting and month-end inventory reconciliation.
  • Manage pricing methodologies and job costing systems.
  • Evaluate financial systems and recommend process improvements.
  • Improve workflows that increase efficiency, responsiveness, and profitability.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls.

Compliance & Quality

  • Coordinate external financial audits.
  • Conduct internal audits supporting our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and SOC 2 compliance requirements.
  • Ensure financial policies and procedures remain current and effective.
  • Help maintain the integrity and security of company financial information.

Human Resources Support

  • Partner with executive leadership and our HR consulting team on selected HR initiatives.
  • Oversee payroll and commission administration.
  • Support employee development and organizational growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3-5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • Manufacturing accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience supervising and developing employees.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working within ERP systems.
  • High attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

  • Manufacturing accounting.
  • Job costing and pricing systems.
  • Inventory accounting.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Continuous process improvement.
  • ERP implementation or optimization.
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • SOC 2 or similar compliance environments.
  • Digital printing, manufacturing, or production operations.
  • Financial dashboard development and KPI reporting.
