A bit about us: Our client is a growing construction company backed by a private equity firm and is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, cash management, and financial reporting.
• Owes the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
• Owns construction job costing, project accounting, cost-to-complete analysis, and job-level profitability.
• Manages and reviews WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, earned revenue, and gross margin calculations.
• Presents and analyzes financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and key performance indicators.
• Develops and maintains strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, systems, and operational efficiency.
• Supports annual audits, tax compliance, banking relationships, and other external financial requirements.
• Provides financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership and private equity ownership, including reporting packages and performance updates.
• Assists with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic planning.
• Maintains oversight of working capital, cash flow, backlog, and other construction-specific financial metrics.
• Partners with leadership on acquisitions, integration initiatives, and other growth-related projects as needed.
• Leads, mentors, and develops the accounting team while establishing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in construction accounting.
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project-based financial reporting.
• Previous experience working for a private equity-backed company or closely partnering with private equity ownership strongly preferred.
• Experience overseeing the full accounting cycle and leading a month-end close.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems preferred.
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and business-partnering abilities.
• Highly analytical, process-minded, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
