Controller - Construction - Hybrid

Controller Aledo/Ft Worth, TX - 3 days in office $150-175k + bonus Our client, a growing private equity-backed construction company with approximately $40 million in annual revenue, is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead all accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a newly created position designed to strengthen the finance organization and support the company's continued growth. The Controller will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, manage the monthly close process, improve internal controls, and provide financial insights to executive leadership and ownership.This role is ideal for a highly motivated accounting professional who enjoys building processes, driving operational improvements, and partnering closely with business leaders in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.Prepare and review monthly financial statements, cash flow analyses, and management reporting packages.Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.Oversee revenue recognition and job cost accounting for construction projects.Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and support project profitability analysis.Partner with operations and project management teams to ensure accurate project forecasting and cost tracking.Manage banking relationships, debt compliance reporting, and cash flow forecasting.Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors and advisors.Support private equity ownership with financial reporting, board materials, lender reporting, and ad hoc analysis.Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and scalability of accounting operations.Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities.Mentor and develop accounting staff as the finance team continues to grow. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.CPA preferred.7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.Construction, engineering, specialty contracting, project-based, or job-cost accounting experience strongly preferred.Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and project accounting principles.Experience working in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment is a plus.Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems.Demonstrated ability to improve processes, implement controls, and build scalable accounting functions.
