Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Controller for assigned clients, providing outsourced accounting leadership and strategic financial guidance.
  • Lead the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion while proactively resolving issues that could impact deadlines.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by serving as the primary point of contact and owning communication with clients, internal staff, and business partners.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, management reporting packages, and key performance metrics for executive leadership and Boards.
  • Evaluate clients' internal control environments and recommend improvements to strengthen financial processes and mitigate risk.
  • Lead clients through year-end close and financial statement audit preparation, ensuring they are audit-ready and supporting external audit activities.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of clients' organizational policies, applicable federal and state regulations, and current accounting standards.
  • Drive departmental growth through process improvements, operational initiatives, and participation in strategic planning.
  • Mentor, train, develop, and supervise staff and senior accountants, fostering professional growth and high-quality client service.
  • Travel to client locations as needed to support engagements, meetings, and business development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
  • Active CPA license required.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience serving in a Controller, Client Advisory Services (CAS), or equivalent leadership role.
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred, particularly within a Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAS) practice.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading, mentoring, and supervising accounting professionals.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits and ensuring audit readiness.
  • Proficiency with cloud-based accounting systems, including QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, NetSuite, and similar accounting and financial management platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
